[Gaming] 2024 End of Year Summary

Posted by Khatharsis on December 28, 2024

Already the end of 2024? I thought I posted a mid-year summary this year, but with everything else I had going on, I’m not surprised I forgot.

  • Bear & Breakfast – I did not intend to spend as much time as I ended up spending, but this was a cute and fun game. I’m still surprised that by dressing up the bear, people will not run away in terror.
  • SCP – I played with some Discord friends and ended up getting nauseated from the narrow camera
  • Core Keeper – Picked this up again when 1.0 went live. I did not get as far as I did during EA.
  • Escape Simulator – Played this with Discord friends.
  • Stardew Valley – Played this solo and finally finished the community center (after how many years?). I also played another game with Discord friends.
  • Minami Lane – Working through a Humble Bundle backlog. This was another cute, chill game.
  • Venba – Another Humble Bundle game that’s fairly chill.
  • Greedfall (DNF) – I tried. I guess I wasn’t in the mood.
  • Smushi Come Home – I wasn’t expecting to finish this game esp since the graphics are fairly simple but it wasn’t too bad, overall.
  • Necesse – This was on my watchlist and I dabbled in it for a little while before dropping it. The artwork is pretty nice for all of the marketing, but the in-game graphics are eh.
  • Return to Monkey Island – The actual successor to the Monkey Island series. This was quite fun and enjoyable. I think I have an achievement or 2 left to finish it off.
  • Apico – I sank perhaps too much time in this game overall, but it was fun breeding bees until some of the mechanics made it tedious.
  • Raft – Played this with Discord friends again this year. We had to start over because the original host dropped. We did not get nearly as far, unfortunately. I am also not sure if we’ll ever finish…
  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (DNF) – Tomb Raider is one of the nostalgic games from childhood. I was hoping to finish as I’ve got a ton of games from this franchise through Amazon Prime, but lost interest.
  • Valheim – I started a new world and new character. Got further than before (up to Mistlands) but eventually lost interest again. I’ve also played this (in its own world) with Discord friends. I think the part that’s most fun is building a base and satisfies that creation/build urge.
  • Satisfactory – A Discord friend wanted to play this with me with the 1.0 release. This sucked up my free time the rest of the year (okay not quite because I can leave it running in the background while doing something else, but a good chunk of it).
  • Coffee Talk – Fairly chill game though I ended up losing patience and had to start looking up recipes because I’d forget.
  • Gauntlet (DNF?) – I have nostalgic memories of playing this game with my sister as a kid on Atari and my BFF at the time on N64. This modern version had me more annoyed than I remember being in the original game. Then again, I only played the barbarian, which I read is the hardest one to play.
  • Spirit City Lo-Fi Sessions – Does this count as a game? I’ve had it running in the background because it’s nice to tab to periodically.
  • Quilts and Cats of Calico – I don’t remember all of the rules. The story mode is like a puzzle game, but my patience is very short in trying to figure some things out because.. I don’t remember all of the rules. I may try to finish story mode out of sheer stubbornness even though I’m not particularly enjoying it.
  • Bridge to Another World – A hidden object/puzzle game with a relatively interesting story and appropriate for Christmas season.
  • Mystery Case Files: Black Crown – A hidden object/puzzle game with really annoying puzzles that spanned multiple rooms. The story twist was interesting, but I ultimately needed a break from this genre after finishing this game.
